New Resources for Students and
Teachers! |
Itunes U is the Future for the
Classroom
Education has evolved into a virtual world with e-mails and websites for
the students to use as guidance for their classes. Now
Itunes has created their own virtual classroom. This
new segment within Itunes, called Itunes U, provides
educational resources to select American Colleges and Universities
for free. Educational resources include things like lectures,
presentations, demonstrations, debates, tours, archival footage, and
guides from teachers that are available for the student for free at
the click of the mouse.
Any College or University can set up an Itunes U site
easily. All you must have is Itunes on your computer to build
your own site. Faculty can post content they create for their classes
on the site. Then, students can download what they need, and go.
Learning isn't just for the classroom anymore. This
will make it easier for everyone to learn and become more involved
in their classes. It will also spark enthusiasm and encouragement
about communicating with fellow peers and professors. Here's
how: Click Here!
If you already have Itunes installed on your Mac or PC, all you
have to do is open your Itunes, and there is a link for Itunes U.
Click on that and your well on your way to setting up your very own
site.
Don't forget! The new iPhone comes out on June
29th. Check it out Here! | |

New Games in
Libraries
Schools
are trying to find more and more fun ways to connect with their
students. Gaming has become an integral part in a way to bring
students and teachers together to help make learning even more
exciting. Many schools are adding games to their librarys that
involve global warming and genocide. In the school's
library, students can play games while learning something new. This
isn't only for young men either. Young women are becoming more and
more involved in the gaming world. According to a
recent article on smartcomputing.com, women between the ages of
18-34 make up 43% of the gaming population. The statistics
are a bit lower for young women under the age of 18, but it's
still enough to have an impact. By turning the game into an
adventure or experience rather than just killing people, these kinds
of games have the potential to be very popular with young women. One
game that has been overly popular lately is Sims. To find more
information on gaming and how you can add games to your school
library, Click

What is
Girls Get IT?
Florida Girls Get IT is a partnership
between Florida Distance Learning Consortium, Cisco Systems,
Inc., Florida's Community College and University system to
create gender equity in the areas of Science, Technology,
Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) & Information Technology
(IT).
Why does Florida need this
initiative?
To remain competitive,
Florida must offer a highly trained workforce. Nearly 75% of future
jobs in the United States will require the use of technology, yet
fewer than 33% of students in computer courses are female and women
comprise only 20% of IT professionals and 13% of
engineers.
